begin audio session; lecture 1, part 3:

What are "Movements" in Classical and Romantic Music?

All of these pieces are based upon several "movements" which follow a certain three movement pattern of fast, slow, fast--and in many cases an optional "dance movement" inserted as a second or third movement. Dr. Broyles continued, "We're going to look at specific movements, and say, 'how does a composer put this together, and as a listener what am I listening for, what am I anticipating, what am I expecting, and what happens?'"
