Beyond E-Mail -- E-Friends

On Tech Nation, Moira Gunn speaks with Ira Bachrach, president of NameLab, Inc., with Nancy Eaton, head of on-line events for eWorld, the new on-line service from Apple, and Dr. Felicity Hodder, director of the oncology/hematology department at the Children's Hospital of Orange County. What do these people have in common? They met on line, using the conversation facility called "chat." Now fast friends, they saw each other face to face for the first time in taping this program. They talk about what "chat" is, address the question of whether people are forming "real" relationships, describe the electronic party that discussed the O.J. Simpson case, and explore what effect electronic friendship has on our society.
