Extraterrestrial Intelligent Life and Energy

Dr. Moira Gunn speaks with Andrew Fraknoi, Executive Director of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific and member of the Advisory Committee to NASA's Astrophysics Division. Items of discussion include NASA's experiment for intelligent radio transmissions, what makes up an intelligent transmission, and how we would respond. The problems with the Mars Observer and the Hubble Space Telescope are also touched upon.

Moira also speaks with Hal Harvey, Executive Director of the Energy Foundation. How energy relates to all the other environmental concerns and national vs. international energy policies are discussed. The self-funding proposals of the Energy Foundation, to provide incentives to reduce gasoline consumption and to increase the efficiency of refrigeration, are introduced.
