Dr. Moira Gunn speaks with John Hiles, president of Thinking Tools, a Monterey, California-based company that develops software "games" that help people think about complex sociological issues. Their popular product "Sim City" lets the player create a city and become its mayor to see what happens when various policies are implemented. Their latest addition to the "Sim" universe is "Sim Health," a model that allows the player to observe the effects of policy changes on the national health care system. (Yes, it has been installed in the White House.)
Dr. Gunn also speaks with Duane Dauner, president of the California Association of Hospitals and Health Systems. As author of "The Health Care Solution," Mr. Dauner discusses the benefits and shortcomings of various programs and proposes a system that calls for greater individual choice and responsibility.
