A phenomenal musician, Fats Waller was accomplished on piano, organ, violin, and bass violin. He was also a prolific composer who wrote music for Broadway shows as well as piano pieces which exploited every device perfected by the "Harlem Ticklers". He was also an excellent showman and comedian, talents that sometimes overshadowed his first rate contributions as a serious jazz artist. (b. 5/21/04 New York, d. 12/15/43 Kansas City, MO)
