Puerto Rico in Limbo (Part 1)
Last November, Puerto Ricans went to the polls to state their
preference for the island's political future. Though the election
is over, the debate is not likely to end soon. Should Puerto Rico
become the 51st state, break off as an independent nation, or remain
a commonwealth of the United States? The decision is really up to
the United States Congress. In this program, Common Ground talks to
the Puerto Ricans themselves -- residents of the island and leaders
of the Commonwealth, Statehood, and Independence parties -- about
their hopes for the island's future.
