REX C. BICKMORE


Mr. Rex C. Bickmore is the Director of Education and Community Programs and Company Manager for The Washington Ballet in washington, DC. His responsibilities include the overall planning, management and supervision of the Ballet's educational and community programs as well as managing the company operations and touring activities.

Mr. Bickmore began his career as a professional dancer, dancing with three major American ballet companies: the San Francisco Ballet, Joffrey Ballet and the New York City Ballet. He danced professionally for over ten years and had the opportunity to work with many renowned choreographers and teachers including: George Balanchine, Robert Joffrey, Anna Sokolow, Kurt Joos, Eugene Loring and the Christensen Brothers (Lew, Harold and William).

In 1971, Bickmore stopped dancing and his career expanded into other areas. After earning a degree in Biology/Chemistry from the College of Santa Fe, he worked for many years in the environmental field as vice-president of an analytical environmental company and as marketing director for a nuclear power consulting firm. He also continued to work in the dance field on a part-time basis, teaching classical ballet technique and choreographing for student and semi-professional groups.

In 1988, Mr. Bickmore was invited to join The Washington Ballet as Artistic Coordinator, a position that encompassed scheduling and rehearsing the Company, teaching daily classes at the Washington School of Ballet, and choreographing for the professional company and student ensemble. In 1992 he became the Company Manager and in 1994 was appointed Director of Education and Community Programs.
