Welcome to the Kennedy Center’s Young Performing Artists Showcase. We are pleased to be participating in The Internet 1996 World Exposition and the opportunity it provides us to recognize talented young performing artists from every state in the nation. It is important to note that, for many young people, an appreciation of the arts and indeed our cultural heritage is solely dependent on arts education available to them in the school curriculum or in after-school programs. The fine young art ists we salute in this Showcase developed their skills both in the arts and in other subject areas through hard work, persistence, and as a result of teachers, administrators, and parents who ensured the arts were central to their education. We hope you will join with us at the Kennedy Center and our partners nationally in recognizing the level of excellence achieved by these young artists -- and the importance of the arts in the k-12 curriculum of every student.Lawrence J.
