Return to the Showcase Directory Awards and Recognition: Colorado Springs Youth Symphony Concerto Competition - May 1995, First Place Denver Brass - Honorary Member - May 1995 U.S. Invitation to Moscow - June 1995, 1 of 2 chosen Young Concert Artist Auditions in New York - October 1995, accepted to perform Sean Schafer Hennessy was recently selected as one of two American trumpeters under the age of 15 to attend the "International Trumpet Festival" in Moscow. He is the youngest musician and the only trumpeter ever to win the Young Artist Solo Competition with the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony playing the Concerto for Trumpet by Alexander Arutunian. He has performed as a soloist with "The Denver Brass" playing Sonata for Trumpet by Henry Purcell, and was awarded onstage as an "Honorary Membe r". He has performed frequently in the Colorado Springs and Denver communities. He plans to compete this November in New York at Carnegie Hall for the Young Concert Artist Audition. Arts Education Background: Sean has been studying the trumpet for only three years. He began in his school band program at Skyway Park Elementary School in the fourth grade with band director, Mr. Doug Downey. Recognizing his natural talent, his parents, enrolled him in private lessons with Mr. Thomas Wilson, the associate principal trumpet with the Colorado Springs Symphony. In fifth grade he was selected for first chair of the Repertory Orchestra. In sixth grade, he continued with the Youth Symphony and won the Young Solo Artist Concerto Competition and auditioned with the Colorado Brass. He is interested in a career as a soloist. Arts and the Community: Sean often performs publicly in the Colorado Springs area, especially at community fundraising events. He is a member of the Denver Young Artist Orchestra and travels to Denver on the weekends for their rehearsals. He is a regular guest artist at the Broadmoor Community Church in Colorado Springs. He has contributed his time and efforts to the Pikes Peak hospice and the "Pikes Peak Celebration for Children" which benefits the Urban League of Colorado Springs.
