A Global View of Lightning


About one hundred lightning flashes go off every second, somewhere over Earth, most of them unnoticed. To know more about lightning, NASA is launching an instrument called the "optical transient detector" to monitor Lightning on a global scale. Hugh Christian, a senior scientist at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, explains how lightning is being studied from space.
