The Relationship of the Binary and Sonata Forms

At the end of the third lecture, Dr. Broyles concluded by explaining the relationship between the binary form and the sonata form, stating that the sonata form is a large expansion of the binary form. He states that at the time of Mozart composers referred to what we now call the sonata form as "grand binary form".
