Harmony: Tonic and Dominant

"We were talking about tonic and dominant. These are two of the most important characteristics of music in both the Classic and the Romantic period. Remember tonic is the key--the tonal center--and dominant is the note or sometimes the chord or triad built on the note that's five notes up from the tonic...Movement from the dominant to the tonic is what really defines so much music that's going on."
