Kim O'Connell, left, and Katherine Heinrich, both of Washington, D.C. expressed concern about plans to close many national parks, especially in underfunded urban areas already suffering from neglect. Katherine showed me another project of NPCA, an acquisition of land in the Kansas Flint Hills, the largest remaining area of tallgrass prairie, probably America's most threatened major ecosystem.
